GEORGE BURNS
George Burns signs a contract twice.
Partly Printed Contract signed: "George Burns" (twice), 6p, 8½x11. Los Angeles, 1978 March 16. "Memorandum of Agreement" between GBF Productions (c/o Irving Fein) and CBS Entertainment. In part: "Contractor [GBF] shall produce and furnish for broadcast over the television facilities of the CBS Television Network a complete above and below-the-line one (1) hour special, tentatively entitled GEORGE BURNS' 100th BIRTHDAY PARTY, starring George Burns, produced on videotape, in color, (hereinafter called the 'Special') for initial broadcast tentatively scheduled during November 1978...Goldie Hawn is hereby approved as one of the three (3) major guest stars...." George Burns was only 82-years-old when he signed this contract. The title of the show, of course, proved to be ironic since Burns did live to celebrate his 100th birthday in 1996; he died seven weeks later. George Burns 100th Birthday Party first aired on CBS on January 22, 1979, two days after Burns' 83rd birthday. It was shown again on May 4, 1982. George's guests were: Goldie Hawn, Milton Berle, Don Rickles, Johnny Carson, Bob Hope, Gregory Peck, James Stewart, Dean Martin, Pat Boone and Steve Martin. Lightly creased, staple holes at upper left. Folds do not touch signature.
