GEORGE BURNS
Comedian George Burns signed this document for himself and his partner Gracie Allen in 1946. It confirms several changes to a 1944 contract that they signed with their agent at the William Morris Agency.
Document signed "George Burns" for himself and his wife Gracie Allen and by a representative of the William Morris Agency, Inc. 2 pages, 8¼x11, one-sided, thin paper. July 12, 1946. Addressed to Mr. Keith Fowler, c/o William Morris Agency, Inc. Beverly Hills, California. Burns signed this document to confirm changes in an employment contract that Allen and he signed with the William Morris Agency on June 24, 1944. Burns (1896-1996, born Nathan Birnbaum in New York City), the star of vaudeville, radio, television and motion pictures, co-starred with Allen until her retirement in 1958 (she died in 1964), then continued performing in television, theater and nightclubs as a solo act. When he returned to films in 1975 after a 30-year hiatus, Burns won the 1975 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in The Sunshine Boys. He later starred in the title role in Oh, God! (1977) and appeared in Going in Style (1979) and 18 Again! (1988). The comedian, who was honored in television specials celebrating his 90th and 95th birthdays, also wrote Gracie, A Love Story (1988) and 100 Years, 100 Stories (1996). He died in 1996 at the age of 100. Lightly toned, creased and ripped. Staple in upper left corner; second page has separated from staple, which is tarnished. Two file holes, staple holes and rust stains at top edge. Light tears and nicks at top edge and top left corner. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
