GEORGE CARL
The vaudeville comedian who gained a new generation of fans through Johnny Carson, signs for an appearance on the Kraft Music Hall.
Contract signed twice: "George Carl", "GC", 10 pages, 8½x11. New York, N. Y., 1967 July 20. Agreement with Yorkshire Productions for an appearance on TV's The Kraft Music Hall, to be taped September 5, 1967 and broadcast on October 4. He will receive $2,500 for the performance. The 2nd page, Exhibit A, stipulating compensation for re-broadcasts, has been initialed by him. George Carl (1916-2000) started as a circus clown, becoming a vaudeville-style comedian. Johnny Carson, a big fan, championed Carl, who appeared on TV variety shows throughout the 1960s. With hardly any props, except for a microphone and stand, Carl would seemingly accidentally become tangled up in the cord, get his thumb stuck in the microphone stand and, through a flurry of silent bits, wind up accomplishing nothing at all in the time spent onstage. The Circus of Monte Carlo gave him an award, presented in person by Prince Rainier and Princess Grace. Heavily toned. Light surface creases. Edges and corners lightly worn and creased. Binding holes on top margin. Staples in top margin and top left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
