On flap on verso, Chakaris has written: "G. Chakaris" and his two-line return address. Singer, dancer and actor George Chakiris (born 1934) never attained the level of stardom predicted for him after he won both the Best Supporting Actor Oscar and Golden Globe New Star of the Year award for portraying Bernardo in the film version of West Side Story (1961). He continued to star in occasional films, however (The Young Girls of Rochefort, 1967; Pale Blood, 1991) and to make TV guest appearances, including 11 episodes of Dallas (1985-1986).
