GEORGE CROSS and PHYLLIS DARE
The two actors sign this sheet of paper with an original poem by Cross
Autograph poem signed: "Geo. Cross", in full: "Sweet Bridget Parr/She is by far/Chelsea's fairest daughter/Her golden locks/and dainty frocks/Flora must have bought her/ Famed for all time are Chelsea buns/and close on these its china runs/But there is no maid from near or far/Blessed with such charm as Bridget Parr" in black ink and autograph sentiment signed on verso: "Best Wishes/Phyllis Dare" in red ink. 5½x4 white album leaf. George Cross, a British actor, appeared in films from the 1930s into the 1950s-frequently uncredited. His television credits include episodes on Detective (1964), Thorndyke (1964), The Spies (1966) and Doctor Who (1966). British actress Phyllis Dare(1890-1975) first appeared on stage (age 9) at the Cornet Theatre in Babes in the Woods, her sister Zena was also cast in the production. She continued to work regularly for the next few years. After taking a few years off to study, she was fully active again by 1905. At age 17, she published her autobiography From School to Stage. Known for her Edwardian musical comedy roles, she managed a few films such as Argentine Tango and Other Dances (1913), The Common Law (1923) and the last, Gildersleeve on Broadway (1943). Dare's last performance was on stage in King's Rhapsody that opened in 1949 and ran for 2 years, where she again worked with her sister Zena. Right edge ragged from removal from album. Evenly toned. Edges lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
