GEORGE CRUMB
Envelope fragment signed by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Crumb with his Meridian address
Signature: "George Crumb" with Media, Pennsylvania address. 6¼x1¾. Envelope fragment with part of a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania postmark. Crumb, born George Henry Crumb in Charleston, West Virginia in 1929, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer of avant garde and modern music. Crumb is known for his choral compositions which draw on a wide palette of vocal effects, such as hissing, whispering, tongue clicks and shouting; excellent examples include Black Angels (1970), Ancient Voices of Children (1970) and Star Child (1977). Many of his pieces, including Ancient Voices of Children, are inspired by the poetry of Federico García Lorca. Echoes of Time and River (1967) is one of Crumb's few orchestral pieces and won him a Pulitzer Prize. Lightly toned and creased. Signature is lightly smeared in places, but legible. Neatly torn from envelope at top and left edges. Irregular right and bottom edges. Tape residue in bottom left corner. Otherwise in fine condition.
