GEORGE CRUMB
Envelope signed by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Crumb with his Meridian address in 1992
Envelope signed "G. Crumb" with Media, Pennsylvania address. 9½x4. Envelope front postmarked Media, Pennsylvania, Dec. 19, 1992. Addressed to Don Dee, Albuquerque, New Mexico. One 29¢ American flag and Mt. Rushmore stamp affixed. Crumb, born George Henry Crumb in Charleston, West Virginia in 1929, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer of avant garde and modern music. Crumb is known for his choral compositions which draw on a wide palette of vocal effects, such as hissing, whispering, tongue clicks and shouting; excellent examples include Black Angels (1970), Ancient Voices of Children (1970) and Star Child (1977). Many of his pieces, including Ancient Voices of Children, are inspired by the poetry of Federico García Lorca. Echoes of Time and River (1967) is one of Crumb's few orchestral pieces and won him a Pulitzer Prize. Lightly toned and creased. Signature has bled lightly but is legible. Neatly torn from envelope at all edges, which are irregular. Light tears at bottom edge. Normal postal stamps. Otherwise in fine condition.
