GEORGE CRUMB
Signed program from a 1972 production of New and Newer Music at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, featuring Crumb's Songs, Drones and Refrains of Death
Program signed "George Crumb". B/w, 4 pages, 8¼x11, 1 sheet folded, front and verso. Program for an April 23, 1972 production of New and Newer Music at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, conducted by Dennis Russell Davies and with guest baritone Richard Frisch. This show featured Crumb's Songs, Drones and Refrains of Death and works by Max Lifchitz, Hugh Aitken and Hall Overton. Crumb, born George Henry Crumb in Charleston, West Virginia in 1929, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer of avant garde and modern music. Crumb is known for his choral compositions which draw on a wide palette of vocal effects, such as hissing, whispering, tongue clicks and shouting; excellent examples include Black Angels (1970), Ancient Voices of Children (1970) and Star Child (1977). Many of his pieces, including Ancient Voices of Children, are inspired by the poetry of Federico García Lorca. Echoes of Time and River (1967) is one of Crumb's few orchestral pieces and won him a Pulitzer Prize. Lightly toned and creased, otherwise in fine condition.
