Vermont Senator types this letter of thanks to a Phoenix acquaintance
Typed Letter Signed: "GD Aiken" as U.S. Senator from Vermont, 1p, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1974 December 30. On letterhead of "United States Senate/Committee on Agriculture and Forestry" to Mr. Danny L. Franklin, Phoenix, Arizona. In full: "Thank you for your letter of December 26. We are looking forward to going home, but I expect that we will still be as busy as ever - at least for a while. We have a new Cherokee jeep so Mrs. Aiken and I should be able to get around Vermont in good weather and bad. Sincerely yours". George David Aiken (1892-1984) was a Republican U.S. Senator from Vermont from 1941-1975 (he was elected unopposed in 1968). Aiken, a farmer and horticulturist, had previously served in the Vermont House of Representatives (1931-1935; Speaker, 1933-1935), and he was Lieutenant Governor (1935-1937) and Governor (1937-1941) of Vermont. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Fine condition.
