Typed Letter signed: “George Dixon” in blue ink, 1p, 8½x7¼. No place, 1962 November 2.
On letterhead featuring an image of the U.S. Capitol Building. To “Dear Miss Manning”. In
full: “Belated, but most heartfelt, thanks for your wonderful letter. I would have answered it
sooner but I was out of the country and my mail got all out of hand. I sure am glad you like the
book./ God bless you./ Yours sincerely”. George Dixon was a journalist in the Washington,
D.C. area during the 20th century. The book to which he is referring in the letter is most
likely Leaning on a Column (1961), a light-hearted account of goings-on in the United States
capital that features amusing observations about different Washington, D.C. personalities,
from well-loved presidents to lesser-known politicians. Lightly toned. One horizontal mailing
fold. Gently creased throughout. 1-inch portion at left edge has been torn off. Otherwise, fine
condition.
