On letterhead of the Royal College of Music to "Dear Benton", In full: "I have just seen [?]. He is tied up this week and very busy next week, but he has taken your address and will write to you. Meanwhile, I am told that Armina Lucchesi, who was a very good player here some years ago, lives at Ashdown House, Kinoyle Road, Brighton 6. She was a real soloist. If a woman will do, it might be worthwhile to get hold of her. I can give you the names and mention two very good girls (like Rita Pearl, for instance) if they would be welcome. Greetings from everybody and every good wish. Yours sincerely". English composer and music teacherGeorge Dyson (1883-1964), the father of physicist Freeman Dyson and the grandfather of scientists George Dyson and Esther Dyson, taught at the Royal College of Music from 1921, becoming its Director in 1937. His compositions include a symphony in G minor, a violin concerto, major choral works, and popular morning and evening canticles for the Church of England. A combat veteran of World War I, he wrote a widely disseminated booklet on the use of grenades. Heavily toned and soiled. Multiple soiled spots. Edges lightly frayed. Corners lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
