GEORGE GALLUP
George Gallup signs his signature on letter head from the American
Institute of Public Opinion.
Signature: "George Gallup", 6x8¾ letterhead from the American
Institute of Public Opinion. A former journalism professor at Drake,
Northwestern and Columbia Universities, Gallup founded and became
Director of the American Institute for Public Opinion in 1935; a British
Institute followed in 1936. A pioneer in the use of statistical methods
to measure the interests of readers, Gallup extended his research to include
radio audiences, establishing the Audience Research Institute in 1939.
Although he won numerous awards and wrote several books, he is probably best
known for the Gallup Poll, which he developed to survey public opinion on
politics. Fold creases not near signature. Black stain at lower left.
Otherwise, fine condition.
