George Gallup signs his signature an index card.
Signature: "George Gallup", 5x3 index card. A former
journalism professor at Drake, Northwestern and Columbia Universities,
Gallup founded and became Director of the American Institute for Public
Opinion in 1935; a British Institute followed in 1936. A pioneer
in the use of statistical methods to measure the interests of readers, Gallup
extended his research to include radio audiences, establishing the Audience
Research Institute in 1939. Although he won numerous awards and wrote
several books, he is probably best known for the Gallup Poll, which he
developed to survey public opinion on politics. Stain at lower right.
