GEORGE KENNEDY
Contract signed by Kennedy guaranteeing that moviegoers see his name on the
lobby card… outside Japan and the Far East, at least
Contract Signed: "George Kennedy" with unknown signatures in black ink and blue ink with
letter signed "Frederick" by Frederick J. Schwartz of Chasin-Park-Citron Agency in blue ink.
2-page contract with 1-page letter on letterhead of Schiff, Hirsch & Schreiber, 8x11.
Contract is dated Feb. 27, 1978; letter is dated April 26, 1978 and stamped received
on May 1, 1978 in purple ink. This is an amendment to a Personal Service Agreement
signed between Kennedy, Argie Casey, Inc. and Japanese producing company Stik
International. The agreement states that, whenever Stik International's movie appears
outside of Japan and the Far East, Kennedy will be billed on a separate card above the
title in type no less than 75% smaller or less prominent that that of the title's name
or anyone else listed on the bill. It's uncertain which of Kennedy's movies this contract
pertains to. IMDB.com lists Kennedy appearing in 10 movies and a miniseries between
1977 and 1979, including one of several Japanese productions showcasing him, 1977's
Ningen no shômei (English title Proof of a Man). Kennedy (1925-2016), has acted in over
170 movies and TV shows, including roles in Have Gun, Will Travel, Maverick and
Rawhide as well as movies like The Dirty Dozen and an Oscar for his role as Dragline
in Cool Hand Luke. He's probably best known to modern audiences for his appearance
in 1970's Airport and its three sequels, not to mention his role opposite Leslie
Nielsen as Capt. Ed Hocken in three Naked Gun movies. Lightly toned. Staple holes
in upper right corner. Two binder holes on top. Contract and letter have been folded in
three and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
