Signed letter from the television personality and cartoonist,
thanking a fan for their nice letter, but saying he is unfortunately unable to
send an original cartoon as it costs him too much money
Typed letter signed: "George Lemont", in black ink, 6¾x3¾.
In full: "Dear Ronals: Appreciated your nice note. Sorry, but I ceased
sending out originals some six months ago. I found out that it was costing me
over $200 monthly in postage (out of my pocket) to fulfill the requests. Best
regards". George Lemont (1922-1985) was a cartoonist, drawing and
authoring his Dr. Smock cartoon, which was syndicated in more
than 200 newspapers for over 10 years. Lemont was also a local San Francisco
celebrity, writing and narrating the local television show Fireman
Frank in the 1950's. Staple holes in top left. Crease on bottom right.
Slight surface creases. Corners slightly worn. Ink notes (unknown hand) on
verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
