Wolcott, Washington D.C. In Full: "I just received the announcement of your election to be President of the Capital Properties, Incorporated. Congratulations! I am delighted to learn of this and wish you every success in this enterprise. Very best to you. Sincerely". Prior to becoming Eisenhower's Secretary of the Treasury (1953-1957), George M. Humphrey (1890-1970) had spent his entire professional life with M. A. Hanna Company, serving as president from 1929.He had been nominated to the Cabinet post as a result of his work regarding post-war plans in German. Humphrey was one of the most influential advisors to Eisenhower who was quoted as saying, "When George speaks, we all listen". Jesse Paine Wolcott (1893-1969), a World War I veteran, was a lawyer and prosecuting attorney. A Republican, he represented Michigan in the U.S. House (1931-1957), rising to chairmanship of the Banking and Currency Committee. Appointed by President Eisenhower to the board of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in 1958, he served as its chairman until 1964. Mailing fold through center. Slightly creased.
