Pullman handwrote and signed this letter to a Mr. Gunther, asking him to "send me by messenger some of your best candies or candied fruits" for a dinner party. Matted to 9¾x8 in a brown-and-black matte with a b/w photo of Pullman.
Autograph letter signed: "Mr. Geo M. Pullman", 1p, 4x5 fabric-textured paper, matted to 9¾x8 in a brown-and-black matte with a 2¼x3 b/w photo of Pullman. Dated "Friday". In full: "Mr. Gunther Will you kindly send me by messenger some of your best candies or candied fruits -, suitable for dinner party this evening. Yours Truly". George M. Pullman (1831-1897,) and a friend designed the Pullman Railroad Car with a folding upper berth (1864)and extensible seat cushions to make alower berth. The Pullman Palace Car Co. was organized in 1867. Besides the sleeping car bearing his name, Pullman also devised dining cars (1868), chair cars (1875) and vestibule cars (1887). Letter is lightly toned and stained. Folded once and unfolded. Matte is lightly nicked and stained near lower right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
