A $500,000 bond with a 7% interest signed by Pullman
Bond signed: "Geo. M. Pullman" as President, also signed on verso1p, 16x10½, 3½x1¾ interest coupon attached at lower left. No Place, 1876 July 15. In part: "Know all Men by these Presents that the Pullman Southern Car Company for value received hereby agrees and promises to pay the bearer hereof for the time being or in case of registration to the registered holder the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ten years after the date of these presents with interest thereon from the date hereof until the day in which the principal of this Bond shall become payable…." This bond issued was for $500,000 with an interest rate of seven percent paid semi-annually on January and July 15. George M. Pullman (1831-1897,) and a friend designed the Pullman Railroad Car with a folding upper berth (1864) and extensible seat cushions to make a lower berth. The Pullman Palace Car Co. was organized in 1867. Besides the sleeping car bearing his name, Pullman also devised dining cars (1868), chair cars (1875) and vestibule cars (1887). Cancellation holes, 2 of which remove the "eo" and "ma" of the signature. Multiple folds. Light surface creases. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
