GEORGE M. TRAUTMAN The President of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues signs this card with his photograph affixed Signature: “G.M. Trautman” in blue ink. 5½x3½. George M. "Red" Trautman (1890-1963) was an American baseball executive and college men's basketball coach. After graduating from Ohio State University, he became an assistant athletic director under Lynn St. John. Trautman then became the men's basketball head coach for three years, in which their overall record was 29-33. In 1933 he became president of the Columbus Red Birds, three years later he was named president of the American Association, a position he held through 1945. Trautman moved the office of the league from Durham, North Carolina to Columbus, Ohio. In 1946 Trautman was named General Manager of the Detroit Tigers, succeeding Jack Zeller. After two seasons with the Tigers, Trautman was named President of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues which he held from 1947 until his death in 1963. He was inducted into the Ohio State Varsity O Hall of Fame in 1978. Toned. Lightly soiled. Corners rounded. 2x2¾ photograph affixed. Adhesive residue on front. Otherwise, fine condition.
