Written to "Dear Sir", in full: "Cumberland the Bookseller having ar-ranged with me to point Greg Lawkes in his Minor British Theater, I have undertaken to request you will it to Wageman for your portrait in the character which he intends as a companion to J P Cookes Long Tom - will you give me the favor of a line on the subject [Illegible] me to remain - Yours very truly" English playwright George Macfarren (1788-1843) was born in London, England. The father of English composer George Alexander Macfarren (1813-1887), over ten of his works were performed on English stages between 1818 and 1838, including Winning a Husband (1819), George III (1824) and Innocent Sins (1838). Two vertical and two horizontal folds. Lightly toned. Lightly creased. Lightly worn. ½x3-inch piece missing from bottom left corner. Minor nicks and tears at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
