GEORGE McAFEE
Football Hall of Famer George McAfee wrote this letter to a fan, saying he doesn't know who gave him his famous nickname "One-Play".
Autograph letter signed "George McAfee" in blue ink. 1 page, 8½x10¾. Written on a letter from Lee Mar of Albuquerque, New Mexico, dated Feb. 22, 1993, in part:"I know that you have probably answered this question many times before, but who pinned the nickname 'One-Play' on you and why did he give it to you?" McAfee responds, in full: "Dear Lee I honestly do not know who taged [sic] me with One-Play - Best Wishes". McAfee (1918-2009, born George Anderson McAfee in Corbin, Kentucky) was a professional football halfback who played for the Chicago Bears from 1940-1941 and 1945-1950, spending the war years in the Navy. He has a career total of 21 touchdowns, 1,685 rushing yards and 1,359 receiving yards with 85 receptions. His best year was probably 1941, when he led the NFL in longest rush (70 yards), touchdowns (12), non-offensive touchdowns (4), and yards per ball touch. McAfee was selected for the 1941 Pro Bowl first team and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1966. Bowler From his Pro Football Hall of Fame biography: "George, whether running wide or up the middle, either as a pass receiver or a decoy, was known as 'One-Play McAfee', and a constant headache to the opposition." Lightly toned and creased. Folded twice vertically and thrice horizontally. Otherwise in fine condition.
