Montgomery played Matthew "Matt" Rockford, Mayor of Cimarron City, Oklahoma, from 1958-1959; the Western aired from1958-1960. In the year he signed this photograph, Montgomery was seen in uncredited archival footage in the documentary, The Great Indian Wars 1840-1890. The documentary also included archival footage (also uncredited) of such famous Native Americans as Sitting Bull, Geronimo and Iron Eyes Cody as well as several of Montgomery's fellow actors, including Lloyd Bridges and Hugh O'Brian. George Montgomery (1916-2000), an action hero of mostly war and Western films of the 1940s and 1950s, also directed several films in the 1960s. A former heavyweight boxer and stunt man before becoming a leading man, Montgomery was married for nineteen years to singer/TV personality Dinah Shore, appearing often on her show after their amicable divorce. His Oscar nomination for Best Art Direction (Ladies in Retirement, 1941) foreshadowed his second successful career as a furniture designer. Montgomery, who also designed and built 11 homes, was also a self-taught, talented artist. Minor surface creases (most not evident head on). Black marks at upper and lower left edges.
