GEORGE MONTGOMERY
Still from the 1956 film Huk!, signed by Montgomery in 1986
Photograph signed: "George/Montgomery/86". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9¼x7 (one surface). Still from his 1956 film, Huk!, in which Montgomery starred as Greg Dickson, who returns to the Philippines to sell his father's estate, which falls under the attack of marauding, fanatic guerillas called Huks. ©1956, United Artists Corporation. Captioned at lower margin. In the year he signed this photograph, Montgomery appeared as Major Nestorovic in the Russian/Yugoslavian film, Dikiy veter, the story of a daring O.S.S. raid by American, Russian and partisan forces on a Nazi armored train that is terrorizing the Yugoslavian countryside. George Montgomery (1916-2000), an action hero of mostly war and Western films of the 1940s and 1950s, also directed several films in the 1960s. A former heavyweight boxer and stunt man before becoming a leading man, Montgomery was married for nineteen years to singer/TV personality Dinah Shore, appearing often on her show after their amicable divorce. His Oscar nomination for Best Art Direction (Ladies in Retirement, 1941) foreshadowed his second successful career as a furniture designer. Montgomery, who also designed and built 11 homes, was also a self-taught, talented artist. Creased at blank margins. Minor surface creases (not evident head on). Otherwise, fine condition.
