Postcard signed: "George Murphy" on verso. B/w with sepia hue,
3½x5½. Photograph of the Hollywood Canteen on verso is captioned: "Sunday
afternoon at the Hollywood Canteen". Dancer/actor George Murphy (1902-1992)
appeared in film musicals of the 1930s, moving to dramatic roles in the late
1940s. He followed a path similar to that of his friend Ronald Reagan:
switching party allegiance from Democratic to Republican, serving as President
of the Screen Actors Guild and winning election to the U.S. Senate from
California in 1964. Murphy served as a U.S. Senator from 1965-1971.
Lightly creased and soiled. Stained at upper blank edge. Overall, fine
condition.
