As Vice President of Desilu Productions Inc., Murphy sends a thank you letter to Cy Laughter of Laughter Corporation.
Typed Letter signed: "'Murph'", 1p, 8½x11. On his Vice Presidential letterhead at Desilu Productions, Inc. Hollywood, California, January 3, 1961 To "Dear Cy" Cy Laughter, President of Laughter Corporation, Dayton, Ohio. In full: "Thank you very much for the lovely cuff links which arrived last week. I appreciate them very much indeed. I gave Tibby his badge and he was extremely happy about it and has spent a great deal of time showing it off to people/ I just hope he doesn't try to arrest somebody that's too big for him. I'm glad that you got the pictures and hope that you and your Dad will come back and see us soon again. In the meantime, a very happy New Year. Sincerely." Dancer/actor Murphy (1902-1992) appeared in film musicals of the 1930s, moving to dramatic roles in the late 1940s. He followed a path similar to that of his friend Ronald Reagan: switching party allegiance from Democratic to Republican, serving as President of the Screen Actors Guild, and winning election to the U.S. Senate from California in 1964. For Me and My Gal (1942), a musical starring Murphy and Garland, was also Gene Kelly's screen debut. Desilu Productions, originally founded in 1950 by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, produced shows such as I Love Lucy, Star Trek and The Untouchables. Robert "Cy" Laughter (1925-2011) started working at Laughter Corporation in 1946 where he served as Vice-President from 1956-1960 and as President from 1960 until his retirement in 1990. He was also the founder of Bogie Buster's Golf Tournament. Creased (also at corners). Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
