GEORGE MURPHY
George Murphy sends a letter of thanks to a fan and promotes his next
film For Me And My Gal.
Typed Letter signed: "George Murphy", 1p, 5¼x7¼. On personal
letterhead at M-G-M Studios. Culver City, California, no date, but
circa 1942. To "Dear Friend" . In full: "Please accept
my sincerest thanks for your kind note. It is always a pleasure to receive word
from friends whom I have never seen. Am now appearing in 'For Me And My Gal'
starring Judy Garland and I hope you like it. With best wishes."
Dancer/actor Murphy (1902-1992) appeared in film musicals of the 1930s,
moving to dramatic roles in the late 1940s. He followed a path similar to
that of his friend Ronald Reagan: switching party allegiance from Democratic to
Republican, serving as President of the Screen Actors Guild, and
winning election to the U.S. Senate from California in 1964. For Me
and My Gal (1942), a musical starring Murphy and Garland, was also Gene
Kelly's screen debut. Lightly creased. Mounting stains on verso show through at
top and bottom center. Otherwise, fine condition.
