GEORGE NADER and JIM BACKUS
Signature of George Nader and Jim Backus on a piece of paper attached to an album leaf.
Signature: "George Nader" and "Jim Backus", 4½x2 piece of paper attached to 7¾x3¼ album leaf with b/w 1½x2¾ of the actors attached (two surfaces). GEORGE NADER (1921-2002, born in Pasadena, California) was an American actor with over 60 films and TV shows to his credit between 1950 and 1974. Nader got his start at the Pasadena Playhouse before going on to play rugged, often bare-chested roles in the 1950s, including a notable performance as Lt. Dave MacDougall in 1956's Away All Boats. He moved to low-budget European films in the 1960s; his character FBI agent Jerry Cotton was popular in Germany for several years. Nader, a gay man who had a relationship with Rock Hudson's secretary, Mark Miller, until Nader's death, also wrote a science-fiction novel in 1978, Chrome, about gay robots. B-movie fans may recognize Nader as the scientist Roy from Robot Monster (1953). In 1949, for the first time (and for many years after), JIM BACKUS (1913-1989) provided the voice of the nearsighted Mr. Magoo in the UPA cartoon Ragtime Bear; the actor later claimed that he based this character on his own businessman father. In one of his best known roles, he played millionaire Thurston Howell III on the TV sitcom Gilligan's Island (1964-1967) and its sequels. He also played James Dean's father in the film Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and co-starred in the TV sitcoms I Married Joan (1952-1955) and Blondie (1968-1969). Lightly creased. Paper missing at "Bac" of Backus. Otherwise, fine condition.
