GEORGE OLSEN
TLS authorizing his agent to remove the contents of his safe deposit box and release the box to the Bank of America
Typed Letter signed: "George Olsen", 1 page, 7¼x10½. New York, N.Y., 1931 December 12. On personal letterhead to Bank of America, Hollywood, California. In full: "This is to authorize you to give the bearer, Mr. Charles Shutta, permission to have access to my vault box #469 and take the contents out and release the box to you. Thanking you very kindly, I remain yours very truly". American band leader George Olsen (1893-1971) was a prolific recording artist for Victor, Columbia and Decca in the 1920s and 1930s. He appeared in several Broadway shows, including Eddie Cantor's Whoopee! (1928), and the 1930 movie version of Whoopee! He was married to singer/dancer Ethel Shutta from 1926 to 1936, also a performer in the Cantor show. The couple performed together in nightclubs and on Jack Benny's radio show. The Charles Shutta mentioned in this letter was no doubt a relative. Multiple mailing folds. Lightly toned and creased. Pencil mark (unknown hand) near left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
