piece of paper. George Pope Morris (1802-1864) was a journalist, poet and
popular songwriter. He co-founded the "New York Daily Mirror" in 1823.
His verses, frequently sentimental, were filled with American patriotic themes.
His best remembered work, "Woodman Spare That Tree" was written in 1830 and
set to music in 1837. Lightly soiled. Irregularly cut. Otherwise, fine
condition.
