Born in South Danvers (now Peabody), Massachusetts, 42-year-old banker and
broker George Peabody settled in London in 1837. He and Junius S. Morgan were
partners in the international banking firm of George Peabody & Co. from
1854-1864 when Peabody retired. He founded and endowed the institutes in
Baltimore and Peabody and museums at Harvard and Yale that bear his name.
Stains on verso (no show through). Tiny stain on his cheek, overall fine
appearance.
