York. In full: "Thank you for your letter of 8 September. I do not
really feel that this is a field on which I can comment in any way
professionally and my personal views have no more value than those of anyone
else. Yours sincerely." George Porter (1920-2002) shared the 1967 Nobel
Prize in Physics with fellow Englishman Ronald Norrish and German scientist
Wilfred Eigen for his "studies of extremely fast chemical reactions, effected
by disturbing the equilibrium by means of very short pulses of energy".
Porter specifically studied the equilibrium of chlorine atoms and molecules. He was knighted in 1972. Slightly creased with
folds, horizontal fold at signature, else fine condition.
