4¼x3¼ card, affixed to a 7x8¼ sheet (2 surfaces). George Rignold
(1839-1912), handsome leading man of the English stage, starred in London
as Romeo and as Henry V. Statuettes of Rignold as the king on
horseback were on sale at Drury Lane during a production there. Rignold made
successful tours of the US, Canada and Australia during the 1870s,
returning to Australia as lessee of Her Majesty's Theatre, Sydney for 7 years
(1887-1894), starring as Henry V on the theatre's opening night. Without
children from his two marriages, Rignold left his estate to the Royal General
Theatrical Fund. Slightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
