In 1894, George Scarborough, Sheriff of Jones County, accepted appointment as a Deputy U.S. Marshal for El Paso, Texas. Lawman John Selman, who had killed gunslinger John Wesley Hardin on August 19, 1895, accused Scarborough of robbing the body of a cattle rustler. At dawn on Easter Sunday, April 2, 1896, Scarborough confronted a drunken Selman at El Paso's Wigwam Saloon. A quarrel ensued, continued into an alley outside, resulting in Scarborough drawing his weapon and killing Selman. Four years later, near San Simon, New Mexico, on April 6, 1900, Scarborough was killed during a gunfight with cattle rustlers. Lightly soiled. Folds, vertical fold at the "G". Lightly creased. Overall, fine condition.
