GEORGE SIDNEY
5x7 sepia photograph of the veteran actor shown in a tuxedo jacket and bow tie
Photograph Signed: "Cordially/George Sidney", Sepia 5x7. George Sydney (1876-1945), born in Hungary, was an accomplished stage and screen actor. Sydney made his professional debut at the turn of the century in an original production of The Floor Walkers (1900-1901). Seven years later, he appeared in another stage production entitled Buzzy Izzy's Boodle, which ran only one week from April 6th, to April 13th. In 1915, Sidney made his onscreen debut in a short entitled Bizzy Izzy. He wouldn't appear onscreen for another nine years after his debut. Throughout his stage career, which ended in 1939, Sidney appeared in eight productions including Oh, Look! (1918), Give and Take (1923), and his last stage appearance in the original comedy Window Shopping (1938-1939). After reappearing on the screen in 1924, Sidney quickly established himself as an actor. In only thirteen years, Sidney appeared in fifty titles including Classified (1925), Around the Corner (1930), Rafter Romance (1933), and his last professional casting as Kennedy in the 1937 film The Good Old Soak. After an impressive career, George Sidney passed away in 1945 at the age of 69. Lightly toned at edges. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso. Lightly bowed. Otherwise, fine condition.
