GEORGE REEVES

Photograph signed: "George Reeves". B/w, 9x7. Best known for playing the "Man of Steel" on film and on television, George Reeves (1914-1959), born George Bessolo, made his film debut in 1939. Reeves played Stuart Tarleton, one of the Scarlett O'Hara's hopeful beaus, in David O. Selznick's Civil War epic, Gone With the Wind. Making an excellent impression in that role, in 1940, Reeves was cast in 17 films, including Knute Rockne, All American, Virginia City, The Fighting 69th, 'Til We Meet Again, Pony Express Days and Meet the Fleet. Shown with his girlfriend, played by Jan Clayton, and her unwelcoming father (Grant Mitchell), Father is a Prince (1940). Reeves' career took a fateful turn when he was cast as Superman/Clark Kent in 1951's Superman and the Mole Men, a role he reprised in the 1953-1957 television series. Reeves' death by gunshot wound on June 16, 1959, was officially ruled a suicide, but suspicions of murder have persisted. Signature has light contrast, otherwise fine condition.

NOEL NEILL
A signed black and white photograph of the actress who was the first person to portray Lois Lane on the big screen.

Noel Neill (1920-2016) is an American actress with over 70 TV shows and movies to her credit. Neill made her film debut in 1940. As a child, she wanted to be a journalist like her father. Ironically, her most famous character was a newspaper employee: Lois Lane, Superman's love interest and a journalist at the Daily Planet. She was the first actress to portray Lois Lane, appearing as the character in the 1948 film Superman. Neill reprised the role in Atom Man vs. Superman (1950) and the television show Adventures of Superman (1953-1958). She has made appearances in several superhero productions, including cameos in Superman Returns (2006) and Superboy (1988-1992). Other credits include a series of 1940s Bobby-soxer films that starred Freddie Stewart. Fine condition.


JACK LARSON
The famous actor, librettist, screenwriter and producer is shown smiling and wearing a suit and tie in this black and white photograph, signed in black ink.

Jack Edward Larson (1928-2015) played "Daily Planet" cub reporter Jimmy Olsen on the classic TV series Superman (1952-1958). So closely identified with the role that other acting jobs proved scarce, Larson found success in other aspects of film work. He produced or co-produced several movies, including The Paper Chase (1973), Urban Cowboy (1980) and Bright Lights, Big City (1988). Photograph exhibits a yellow tint with vertical streaks on left side, otherwise fine condition.

ROBERT SHAYNE

Robert Shayne (1900-1992) is best remembered as Inspector William Henderson on the TV series, The Adventures of Superman (1952-1958). His role in the series grew larger with each season. Shayne had moved from stage acting to become a contract player with Warner Bros. in the 1940s, with starring roles in B-movies and supporting ones in big features (North by Northwest, 1959; Tora! Tora! Tora!, 1970). In State Penitentiary, he played an engineer who framed his partner for a crime he committed. Other TV series in which Shayne made multiple appearances were Navy Log (1955-1957) and Death Valley Days (1959). Fine condition.

STERLING HOLLOWAY

Actor Sterling Holloway (1905-1992) played many offbeat roles on screen and off-screen: The Frog in 1933's Alice in Wonderland and the Wild Plum Tree in 1940's The Blue Bird with Shirley Temple; in cartoons as the voice of the Cheshire Cat (1951's Alice in Wonderland), Kaa the snake (1967's The Jungle Book), Winnie the Pooh (1964's Winnie the Pooh). Photograph exhibits a yellow tint, otherwise fine condition.
