reassembled
Typed Letter Signed: “George T. Richardson” 5¼x1 (clipping containing signature) affixed to a
5½x4¼ sheet of paper containing letter clippings and artfully reassembled. Winnipeg,
Manitoba. On Hudson's Bay Company letterhead. April 5, 1971. To “Mr. Croxford”. In full:
“Your collection is a unique one and I am honoured to be included./ I am most happy to supply
you with a sample of my signature to complete your page devoted to Hudson's Bay Company./
Yours sincerely”. George T. Richardson (1924-2014) was the first governor of the Hudson's
Bay Company to be born in Canada. He served in the gubernatorial post from 1970 to
1982 and monitored the company's relocation of its headquarters from London, England,
to Winnipeg, thus transferring ownership from Britain to Canada. During his travels
throughout the Canadian Arctic, Richardson developed an interest in Inuit art. Rippled near
letterhead. Lightly toned. Letter irregularly clipped. Otherwise, fine condition.
