of an Al Smith speech
Typed letter signed: "George Romney", in blue ink, 1 page,
7¼x10½. May 7, 1963. Lansing, Michigan. In full: "Dear Mr. Brown:
Thanks for your note of the 19th and for sending me the reprint of speech made
by Al Smith in 1936. I found it most interesting. Sincerely". Chairman and President of
American Motors Corporation from 1954-1962, George W. Romney (1907-1995)
served as Governor of Michigan (1963-1969) and Nixon's Secretary of
Housing and Urban Development (1969-1973). Born in a Mormon community in
Chihuahua, Mexico to American citizens, Romney unsuccessfully sought the 1968
Republican presidential nomination. His son, Mitt Romney, was Governor of
Massachusetts from 2003-2007. Normal mailing folds. Ink marking on bottom
left corner. Light surface creases. Rust stains on top margin. Staples holes on
top margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
