GEORGE WALLACE
Signed color glossy photo of a poster for Radar Men from the Moon, signed as himself and also as Commando Cody
Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "Commando Cody/George Wallace". Color 8x10. Photo of a poster for Radar Men from the Moon, a Republic serial in 12 chapters. Signed in blue felt tip. Radar Men from the Moon (1952) was the second of three Commando Cody serials from Republic Pictures, the other two being King of the Rocket Men (1949) and Zombies of the Stratosphere (1952), as well as the short-lived series Commando Cody: Sky Marshal of the Universe (cinematic release 1953, original TV release 1955). With effects by Republic special effects wizards Howard and Theodore Lydecker, Radar Men from the Moon pitted rocket pack-toting Commando Cody (George Wallace) against moon ruler Retik (Roy Barcroft) and his henchmen (who included The Lone Ranger's Clayton Moore). Wallace (1917-2005) did an eight-year turn in the U. S. Navy, seeing action in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II and earning the Pacific Fleet light heavyweight boxing title. He worked the usual series of odd jobs in Hollywood after the war, catching the eye (or rather ear) of columnist Jimmy Fidler while working as a singing bartender. This led to singing lessons, which led to acting lessons, which led to appearances in over 200 movies and TV shows between 1951 and 2004. Wallace was usually a member of the supporting cast; Commando Cody was a notable exception. He also appeared in four Broadway musicals between 1956 and 1981. Fine condition.
