1876 contract for the Saint Paul and Sioux City Railroad to buy railroad brakes from the Westinghouse Air Brake Company, signed by Westinghouse
Contract signed: "Geo. Westinghouse Jr", 2 pages, 11x15¾. 1876 February 3. Agreement between the Westinghouse Air Brake Company and the Saint Paul and Sioux City Railroad for the purchase of locomotive brakes and equipment, signed twice on the second page by Westinghouse. In 1869, Westinghouse (1846-1914) invented the railroad air brake and organized the Westinghouse Air Brake Co. to manufacture it. He became a pioneer in introducing in America the high-voltage alternating-current single-phase system for the transmission of electricity. In 1886, he organized the Westinghouse Electric Co. for manufacturing and marketing purposes. Among his more than 400 patents were a number of devices for the practicable and economical transmission of natural gas. Lightly toned and creased. Bound at top with two binders. Folded five times horizontally and twice vertically and unfolded. Folds are worn and torn. Edges are torn, especially along folds and within document. Otherwise, fine condition.
