GEORGE WILLIAM "BILL" WHITEHURSTThe Virginia congressman signed this 3½x2 card in blue ink Signature: "Congressman/ Bill Whitehurst/ Virginia", in blue ink, 3½x2. George William "Bill" Whitehurst (b. 1925) was a Republican congressman from Virginia who served in the U.S. House from 1969 to 1987. In 1950, he earned a bachelor's degree from Washington and Lee University. He then went on to receive his master's degree from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. from West Virginia University. From 1943 until 1946, Whitehurst served in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War as an aviation radioman in the Pacific Theater. After teaching at Old Dominion College for almost 20 years, he became a journalist for WTAR-TV in Norfolk, Virginia (1962-1968). Elected to the 91st Congress, Whitehurst continued his service in the eight succeeding Congresses. After retiring from Congress, Whitehurst returned to Old Dominion College as chair of Kaufman Lecturer in Public Affairs. Very faint mounting corner stain on upper-left hand corner on front. Paper clip indentation extending upward from bottom edge touches "in" of Virginia, but ink is not visibly affected. Otherwise, fine condition.
