Autograph Poem signed: "Geo. W. Russell/'AE.'", 1 page, 7x10¼. Untitled, 3-stanza poem, beginning, "As was our dream we died away ..." George William Russell (1867-1935) often wrote under the pen name "AE". Russell was an organizer for the Irish Agricultural Organization Society (IAOS), which promoted rural cooperatives and credit societies. As such he edited the IAOS journal, The Irish Homestead, which under Russell became also a celebrated literary journal. An important figure in the Irish Literary Revival, Russell was a close friend of William Butler Yeats and of James Joyce, who modeled a character in Ulysses upon him. Russell was also a theosophist who believed himself clairvoyant. Left edge ragged. Edges lightly toned. Smudged on the "G" in Geo and "A" in AE. Otherwise fine condition.
