Signature given the year she began her final season with the
Metropolitan Opera
Signature: "Geraldine Farrar/1921" in green ink. 5x3 card.
Farrar (1896-1974, born in Melrose, Massachusetts) sang with the
Metropolitan Opera from 1906 to 1922. Her chief roles included Carmen, Madame
Butterfly, Manon, Mignon and Tosca. Farrar, known for her beauty and her
acting talent as well as her fine soprano voice, had a large following of
female fans, called Gerry-flappers. She appeared in several silent films.
Cecil B. DeMille cast her as Joan of Arc in Joan the Woman (1916),
the first film to use color scenes. Lightly toned and soiled. Signature has bled
slightly but is legible. Mounting remnants in corners (does not touch
signature). Adheisve residue on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine
condition.
