Autograph Letter signed: "Geraldine" in blue ink. 4 pages, 5¾x8¾, on Farrar's personal stationery. Ridgefield, Connecticut, January 17, 1964. In full: "Dear Clifton: I am always so happy to have your greetings, and this year fortunately, I can enjoy your good wishes to the full. I recovered from those wretched (virus) shingles and am once more, my lively plump self! What a blessing. We are submerged in snowing - sparkling under a cheerful sun. All I need now is a two horse sleigh, jingling bells, and buffalo robes, to dash off in a merry chase on our hills! I gave up my car, not wishing to strain my ancient reflexes, so horse drawn vehicles of my youth have a nostalgic chorus - and since non-existent, I can 'dream' of the delights once so very enjoyable! My circle narrows, as it must, when I do not make the exit - but I am interested in the quiet routine that anno domini indicates, and still think our era was a better one than the present stressful pattern. If ever you come East, do leave time to come and see me. Meanwhile, all good wishes to you, dear friend. Affectionately." Lightly toned and creased. Light show-through, which touches handwriting and signature. Light discoloration from envelope on page 4. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by: 6x4½ signed envelope signed "Farrar" in return address on flap. Postmarked Ridgefield, Connecticut, January 17, 1964. Addressed in her hand to "Mr Clifton Webb/1005 No Rexford Dr/Beverly Hills/California/90210". With one 5¢ blue-and-white Washington stamp affixed. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Flap is slightly frayed, with tape residue along edge of flap. Envelope was neatly opened with light paper loss on flap. Otherwise in fine condition. GERALDINE FARRAR (1896-1974, born in Melrose, Massachusetts) sang with the Metropolitan Opera from 1906 to 1922. Her chief roles included Carmen, Madame Butterfly, Manon, Mignon and Tosca. CLIFTON WEBB (1891-1966, born Webb Parmalee Hollenbeck in Indianapolis, Indiana) received three Oscar nominations for Laura (1944), The Razor's Edge (1946) and Sitting Pretty (1948).
