Ephemera signed: "Geraldine Farrar". Signed on a record label
with an unsigned photo of her attached, affixed to a 4x4 sheet (2 surfaces).
Geraldine Farrar (1896-1974, born in Melrose,
Massachusetts) sang with the Metropolitan Opera from 1906 to 1922. Her chief
roles included Carmen, Madame Butterfly, Manon, Mignon and Tosca. Farrar, a
famous beauty, was known for her affairs, including a long-lasting one with
Arturo Toscanini. She made several silent films, often insisting on music
accompaniment when she filmed them. Farrar had an avid following of female fans,
known as "Gerry-flappers." Her autobiography, Such Sweet Compulsion, was
published in 1938. Fine condition.
