GERALDINE PAGE. Photograph signed: "Geraldine Page". B/w, 10x8. Scene from the Tennessee Williams play, Clothes for a Summer Hotel. Photograph by Michael Heller, 1980. Clothes for a Summer Hotel, which ran at the Cort Theatre on Broadway for 14 performances (March 26-April 6, 1980), starred Page as Zelda Fitzgerald and Kenneth Haigh as F. Scott Fitzgerald. Actress Geraldine Page (1924-1987) took home the 1985 Best Actress Academy Award for The Trip to Bountiful after being nominated for Oscars seven times: for Best Actress for Summer and Smoke (1961), Sweet Bird of Youth (1962) and Interiors (1978) and for Best Supporting Actress honors for Hondo (1953, her debut film), You're a Big Boy Now (1966), Pete 'n' Tillie (1972) and The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984). Page, who had begun her acting career as a stage actress, had received raves for her performance in the off-Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke, and began her film career the following year. She also won two Emmy Awards for her portrayals of Truman Capote's eccentric mother in A Christmas Memory (1967) and The Thanksgiving Visitor (1969). Page was married to actor Rip Torn from 1961 until her death in 1987. Defects from original negative have reproduced at background. Ink note on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
