GERALDO RIVERA
Signed printed photo of a youthful Rivera, with longer hair and a
mustache
Printed photograph signed: "Best wishes/Geraldo Rivera".
B/w,6¼x8. Geraldo Rivera (b. 1943), a TV reporter with a fondness for
sensationalistic stories, has broadcast successively for ABC, NBC and Fox
networks. After appearing frequently on ABC shows 20/20 and
Nightline, he got his own shows: Goodnight America (from 1980)
and Geraldo (1987-1998). Rivera, no stranger to controversy, was
fired from ABC after criticizing its decision not to air a story about JFK's
relationship with Marilyn Monroe, and asked to leave Iraq by the US Army after
revealing planned troop movements on the air. Rivera has broken legitimate
stories, as when he reported that Elvis Presley died from drug abuse, not a
heart attack. In other cases, his reports have proven grossly exaggerated
(like his claims of a national Satanic network) or anti-climactic (as when he
opened Al Capone's "treasure vault" to find only a few broken bottles. Rivera
has often been parodied, and has frequently participated in a good-natured way
in the spoofs. Lightly creased. Corers worn. Irregularly cut edges. Ink note
(unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
