GERARD GLAISTER The BBC producer who also served in World War II signed this commemorative envelope that raised money for the Red Cross Commemorative Envelope Signed: “G. Glaister”. 6½x4¼ affixed to a 6¾x5¼ slip of paper. Postmarked Colditz, Germany, 1972. Commemorative envelope that remembers the use of Colditz Castle as a POW camp by Nazi Germany during WWII. Glaister's signature on this envelope is especially fitting, not only because he served in WWII, but because he produced Colditz (1972-1974), a show based on the castle's use as a POW camp. Gerard Glaister (1915-2005) served in the Royal Air Force during WWII, enlisting just after making his theatrical debut in London in 1939. He earned a Distinguished Flying Cross during his time in the RAF. Glaister is best known as a television executive who worked on many television shows as a producer, director, and screenwriter. His many credits as a producer include Colditz (1972-1974), Secret Army (1977-1979), Howards' Way (1985-1989), and Trainer (1991-1992). Glaister has earned dozens of credits as a director and screenwriter as well. Adhesive on verso of envelope. Otherwise, fine condition.
