GERARD MALANGA
Extremely rare signature from Malanga on a clipped page from the special edition of his book Ten Years After, numbered as 230 out of 250 signed copies
Book page signed: "Gerard Malanga", in black ink, 5½x9. Malanga has also numbered the book as 230 out of 250 special edition copies, as noted on the page. A close companion and artistic partner to Andy Warhol, Gerard Malanga (b. 1943) is an Italian American poet, photographer, filmmaker, and curator. First taking an interest in poetry while he was a senior in high school, Malanga attended several universities to continue his education, even being given an anonymous fellowship to Wagner College in Staten Island by someone for the sole purpose of advancing his artistic interests. In 1963, he was hired by Andy Warhol to work in his studio The Factory, which Malanga later called "a summer job that lasted seven years". He would appear in several of Warhol's early films, including Kiss (1963), Vinyl, and Chelsea Girls (1966), and was often in assistance for Warhol's silkscreen painting. Together, the duo formed Interview magazine, which is still running today as one of the most intimate celebrity and personality interview magazines. Several of Malanga's own creative venues have proved highly successful, including much of his photography, with his book Screen Tests Portraits Nudes 1964-1996 being critically praised. Left edge irregularly cut. Toned. Slight surface creases Otherwise, fine condition.
