sheet, 6x8, on GBB letterhead to "Martin's Pharmacy" In full:
"Dear Sirs- Kindly save me two tickets for the Open House Day Damariscotta
July 31. Enclosed is check for $4.00. [not included] Am coming
down by train July 31st arr. At Newcastle at 1.30 PM. Could you have a taxi to
meet that train & to take me & my friend to see the old houses? Very
truly". Gertrude Beals Bourne (1868-1962) was an American
watercolorist. In 1904 she married the architect Frank A. Bourne, a prominent
colonial revival architect and founder of the Beacon Hill Civic Association.
Their home was known as Sunflower Castle and Mrs. Bourne later founded the
Beacon Hill Garden Club. The couple is credited with re-gentrifying Beacon Hill
in the first two decades of the twentieth century. Toned. Heavily creased
down center with discoloration. Corners rounded. Some smudging on front. Rusting
spots and paperclip impression on center. Otherwise, fine
condition.
