GERTRUDE BERG
Berg handwrote, signed and dated this note to a longtime fan of The Goldbergs in 1954 on her personalized greeting card.
Autograph note signed "Gertrude Berg" in blue ink. With pencil notations on verso in unknown hand. 1 page, 4 ½ x 3 ½ folded, 1 sheet folded, printed on Berg's personalized greeting card. Inscribed on cover: "Gertrude Berg". March 23, 1954. In full: "Thank you so much for your friendly letter of the 19th. I am glad you have enjoyed 'The Goldbergs' for so many years, and hope we will continue to be welcome visitors in your home, via TV, when the show resumes on April 13th. With best wishes to you and your colleagues at Ambassador, Cordially,". Berg (1899-1966, born Gertrude Edelstein in New York City) was a Tony Award-winning American actress and producer. A radio favorite since 1929, her "Goldberg Family" made its film debut in 1950's The Goldbergs. In the film, she recreated her radio and television role (debuted in 1949) of Molly Goldberg, the firm but gentle matriarch of a Jewish family living in The Bronx. Berg also appeared on Broadway four times and won a Tony Award for her performance as Mrs. Jacoby in A Majority of One (1959-1960). Lightly toned and soiled. Mounting remnant in corners, which have discolored cover of card. Otherwise in fine condition.
